April 2004 - BEST CLEAN SWEEP - There is a reason why
Security Amirkhanian, a 66-year-old oriental rug cleaning company in
Norwood, stands out from its competition: 'We wash rugs," President
Mark Bubash says. "Other people try and clean them." The rugs - many
dating back to the 1600s and valued at more than $100,000 - spend an
hour in a one-of-a-kind rug washing machine, where they are submerged
in soap and water, scrubbed, rinsed and squeegeed. The rugs are then
dried for 24 hours in a special 30-foot high drying room at tempatures
up to 122 degrees fahrenheit. Finally, each rug is hand-inspected,
brushed, rolled up and delivered back to its owners. The process is
supervised by highly qualified employees; the plant manager is one of
70 certified oriental rug specialists in the United States. "Our real
focus is quality," Busbash says. And it shows. Many of the company's
customers are third generation.
